Ed Belfour

Edward John Belfour, popularly known as Ed Belfour, has won more NHL games than any other goaltender. Belfour was born in Carman, Manitoba and his first big success was helping his school win the NCAA championship in 1986-87.

The 1990-91 season was a big year for Belfour. He starred in 43 victories in 74 games, had a 2.4 GAA and 4 shutouts. His unique feat won him Calder Memorial Trophy for outstanding play by a rookie, the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender and the William M. Jennings Trophy for letting the least number of goals go through.

This was the start of Belfour's stardom. After this, he went on to win the Vezina Trophy again in 1993 and the Jennings Trophy in 1993, 1995, and 1999. He made his first appearance in Stanley Cup finals for Blackhawks in the 1991-92 season but ended up on the losing side. He made up for it by helping Dallas Stars win Stanley Cup in 1998-98.

In 2002, Belfour signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and helped the team finish second in the Northeast Division. Belfour's goal average and winning record has been exemplary.

However, his aggression often led to ego clashes on the team. At one stage he was nicknamed as Eddie the ego. But there were never any doubts about his goaltending skills. They were always outstanding.Click here to add this page to your favorites
