Goaltending

I t has been proclaimed by many that hockey goaltending is all mental. While a goaltender obviously needs the skills, physical training, talent and experience to keep him on his best game, it is his keen mental skills that will truly make his best game better than the performance of all other hockey goaltenders. Mental training is a must for those goaltenders who hope to stand out above other players. All serious hockey goaltenders know that they need to devote practice time to improve their talents, but the best take the time needed to hone their mental skills as well.

It makes sense that mental training is integral to the success of the best hockey goaltenders in the game. After all, it is our mind, both conscious and subconscious, that controls what our body does. Our mind furnishes our body with the strength, stamina and determination to get through even the toughest athletic endeavors. Our minds will allow our hard working bodies to reach their very fullest potential if we know how to train them appropriately. Hockey goaltenders, in particular, need this mental training due to the high pressure they experience in the game every time they take to the ice and the tremendous amount of effort it takes to keep up with the game of hockey.
