Hannu Toivonen
Hannu Toivonen, currently of the Boston Bruins, blasted on to the NHL scene when, in the fall of 2005, his impressive goaltending skills assisted his team to victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins with an overtime win. Soon after his eighteenth birthday in 2002, Hannu Toivonen had drafted by the Bruins as their number one pick. Hannu Toivonen eventually became their back up goaltender in the 2005-2006 season but first spent two full seasons with the Providence Bruins for the AHL.
While in the AHL, Hannu Toivonen started out his first year, the 2003-2004 season with a couple of shut outs. In the 2004-2005 season, though, he really started to show his star power and revealed just why the Boston Bruins placed him so high on their must have list. Hanny Toivonen maintained his place in the top ten of every goaltending category in the AHL. For example, he had seven shut outs that year putting him tied in fourth place for the league in this category.
Hannu Toivonen, hailing from Kalvola, Finland, played for two years in Finnish hockey associations before playing for the AHL and, then, the NHL. Toivonen goaltended successfully for Finland’s HPK Jr. team and also with the HPK Hameenlinna team in the Finnish Elite League. His team in the Finnish Elite League, in fact, finished their 2002-2003 season with the best record of the league. Mental Goaltending Home Page Order Page
