Henrik Lundqvist
As a seventh round pick for the 2000 Draft by the Ranger’s European market, Henrik Lundqvist has shined through the dull surroundings. Even though he was part of an incredibly weak team, Lunqvist managed to take the team to a fourth place finish in the World Junior Championship of 2001. This got the attention of the Ranger’s scouts in Europe but they left him alone a while and since then has shown that he will be a star for the organization.
Frolunda took the young goaltender on and made him a regular player. At first the work load was a bit much for the 18 year old and his averages started to drop. When the times came that he was giving up more then three goals a game the ice time was drawn back to allow for further practice and rest.
This tactic worked well for the young star and his save average grew to over nine in just a few short games and his ice time started to grow. By the 2003 season Lunqvist was playing in 48 of the 50 games and averaging .976 saves. He attracted attention of the Ranger’s once again and is now destined to be a star with the famed New York organization.
