How to Be a Successful Coach
It takes skill to be a coach. As a coach you have to be more than a coach. Working with different personalities each day requires a lot of time and patience. As a coach, you will more than likely put on many hats. Think about the different roles you perform for your team. You can be considered a motivator, technical expert, psychologist, bus drive, administrator, and even a manager. You are all these things all rolled up into one.
As a coach dealing with the players, you know you are dealing with more than one kind of personality, skill set, experience, and ability. So your coaching style may have to be different to each one. This can be a challenge. For when the athletes reach certain plateaus, they expect more from you. As the players get better, they tend to need more input from you regarding how to manage their lives better and how to regulate their lives.
Another factor that coaches must take into consideration is stress. If the players feel a lot of stress as a team, they will not perform well. You have to keep on top of this and make the atmosphere stress-free so the team can perform at peak condition.
As a coach, in order to be more effective, you have to make sure you can direct your team properly. You have to sure to be attentive to each players needs. And you must be supportive of all the players or they will not feel secure in you as coach. Mental Goaltending Home Page
