Jean Sebastien Giguere

Another big man between the pipes, Jean Sebastien Giguere is one of the many high quality prospects as leading goaltender. Though he is over six foot and near two hundred pounds, Giguere moves like a cat on the ice and is known for some of the most amazing saves as put into play by a rookie.

Giguere was low on the draft rolls but made the first pick for the Whalers in 1995. The owners feel that he is everything that you want from a goaltender. Not only does he stay ahead in the physical department, but his mental preparation sets the bar for the rest of the team. His size prevents the countless injuries that smaller goaltenders suffer, making him a valuable asset to the team.

Early on he was sent down to a farm team. The idea was to see how he could face adversity. This turned out to be money well spent as he led the team in most areas and brought a struggling farm organization back from the brink of disaster.

Giguere prefers the butterfly style of goaltending, which requires that he spend a lot of time laying on the ice, but his impressive grasp of the position shows that he can adapt to the situation. Many games have seen him standing for the saves when the need arises, something that many of the butterfly players are hard pressed to do.
