José Théodore

José Théodore has flattered to deceive. As a goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, Theodore had a mixed career. There were patches of brilliance and some very ordinary work.

He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. But it was in the 2001-02 NHL season that Théodore sparkled. With his rousing performances, he pushed Jeff Hackett aside to become the team’s number one goaltender, and almost took the Canadiens into the play-offs.

He even scored a goal in 2002 and won the Vezina Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy that year.  But that was it. The next season Theodore disappointed his army of fans with very mediocre performances. The arrest of his father and brothers in a loanshark ring case further smudged his image.

There was a brief revival of form in the 2003-2004 season when he bagged a career winning record of 33-28-5 and earned 6 shutouts. But there was much dismay when in 2006 he failed a pre-Olympic anti-doping test. To add to his misfortunes, Theodore broke his heel soon after.

Now there is a great question mark over this goalie. Will he rise and perform again? Or will he fade way? Only time will tell. Click here to add this page to your favorites
