Marc-Andre Fleury
Written by Marty Coffey Marc-Andre Fleury has seen a very strange situation so far in his young career. He is dealing with the pressure of being an excellent player on a sub-par team. His team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, finished last in the league, yet his individual statistics outclassed his teammates by leaps and bounds. Born in 1984 in Canada, Fleury is a very young professional goalie, the very definition of an up-and-comer. He was picked as the 1st overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. This is a very rare occurrence, for a goalie to be a 1st overall pick. Between his young age and his immense talent, Fleury has a lot to offer the NHL. He began with the Penguins as a leader and one of the strongest players on their roster. By the end of their lackluster season, though, even Fleury’s performance was sagging. A lack of morale and a lack of enthusiasm in a weak team may have been the cause of this. In his playing with the NHL and with minor league affiliate teams, Fleury has proven his talents. The numbers may look a little low right now, but that can’t all be blamed on Fleury himself. Someone in the higher-ups has recognized his talent and potential – Fleury just signed a multi-million dollar contract to stay with Pittsburgh. Maybe if the tides change a bit for Marc-Andre Fleury, he can play a season where his talents are truly put to the best use to score a great year for both him and his entire team.
