Martin Gerber
Martin Gerber was born in 1974 in Switzerland. He developed his hockey skills in Switzerland and Sweden before being drafted by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2001 as the 232nd pick overall in the 8th round.
Gerber played a total of 55 games in Anaheim over two seasons before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2004.
Gerber was named to the Switzerland team in ice hockey for the 2006 Olympics, and his wins include an impressive 49 save shutout against Canada, one of the tournament favorites.
Gerber is clearly the starter in Carolina this year, and his statistics include 54 games played, a record that is well above five hundred (36-12), three shut outs and a .909 save percentage. His win record has him tied for third in the National Hockey League for the number of wins, and has been a key component in the Hurricanes’ clinching of the Southeast Division title.
Gerber’s fantastic play at the 2006 Olympics has made him a huge celebrity back home in Switzerland.Click here to add this page to your favorites
