Goalie Martin Biron had 34 saves including 16 in the second period, to stake the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-2 win at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mikka Kiprusoff's 29 saves sealed the Calgary Flames' sixth straight win, 4-1 over Detroit. He ran his shutout streak to 160 minutes, 27 seconds before Daniel Cleary tallied in the last minute of regulation. Goaltender Dominik Hasek had 21 saves as the Red Wings had their own winning streak stopped at nine in a row.
John Grahame had his first win as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes, turning aside 21 Washington Capitals in a 4-1 win. Cam Ward had started 11 in a row for the defending champions. Goalie Olaf Kolzig took it on the chin for the Caps, but had 25 saves.

The New Jersey Devils won their fourth in a row at home in front of Martin Brodeur, who was called upon to make only 15 saves in a 3-2 win at home over the Ottawa Senators. Goaltender Ray Emery was busier, facing 23 Devils shots.
Marty Turco overcame letting in a goal 42 seconds in to backstop the Dallas Stars to a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers' Kari Lehtonen allowed four goals on seven shots and was replaced by Johan Hedberg. Hedberg turned aside 13 Stars shots.
The St. Louis Blues' Jason Bacashihua earned his first NHL start and made 40 saves against a swarming Vancouver Canucks team that nonetheless won 4-2 at home. Roberto Luongo made 19 saves in the win.
