The Role Coaches Play in Sports

If you coach some kind of team you have a heavy responsibility. You have many people with different personalities and talents. Some are gifted with certain skills while others have to work hard to develop them. You may be required to train your athletes to perform to their best. You have to analyze each player’s performance and instruct that player on how to better themselves.

But your role is not limited to doing this; you also must be responsible for guiding your players in life, and how to deal with life and their chosen sport. Trying to juggle many things at once is hard enough. But when you are young, you feel like taking on the whole world. As a coach, you have to tame the beast as it were and make sure these young athletes have a solid foundation from which to work from.

Therefore, don’t think of the coach’s role as just a coach. He is also an instructor, assessor of talent, friend, mentor, facilitator, chauffeur, adviser, supporter, motivator, counselor, and a whole lot more.

In a matter of speaking, coaches have to prepare their students by creating the right conditions so they can learn and grow. This is imperative as each player grows into maturity and learns to hone his skills more abundantly.

Being a coach is not easy. It takes a lot of effort. It takes a quality that only can be found in the right type of people.
