Tuukka Rask

Tuukka Rask currently plays as a back up goaltender for the Ilves Finnish hockey team out of Tampere, Finland, but his rights are currently owned by the Boston Bruins. In the 2005 NHL draft pick, Tuukka Rask held honors as the highest ranked European goaltender and was chosen twenty-first overall when he was hand picked by the Toronto Maple Leafs. In June of 2006, though, he was traded over to the Bruins as the Maple Leafs was already overflowing with tons of talented players. Tuukka Rask has demonstrated some great goaltending skills as a junior league player, but he apparently needs a bit more time to get up to NHL standard.

As a player in the Finnish World Junior Championship in 2006, he received honors for his goaltending in the playoffs. In a game against the Swedes he was even named as the Player of the Game. Although Tuukka Rask’s Finnish team was not victorious in their championship quest, his fine goaltending did earn him the distinction of being named the tournament’s top goaltender. Currently, out of all of the goaltenders who have played at least a third of the season in his league, Tuukka Rask is ranked seventh for his record in goal saves.
